With regard to notification, I think it is necessary
to say that considerable difficulty is created by the
failure of medical officers of residential institutions
to forward notifications promptly and correctly in
accordance with the regulations. During 1936, no
fewer than 93 or 24 per cent, were received
later than the time specified in the regulations.
In 38 cases a notification was actually not received
at all, while on the other hand 15 notifications
were sent in unnecessarily. It may be that the
medical officers concerned are not provided with
sufficient clerical assistance. It should, however,
be pointed out that these notifications are no mere
formality but are the basis on which action depends
with regard to disinfection, the after care of patients,
etc.
