Forty-six sessions were held during the year, fourteen
of which were gas sessions and seven were partly used for
routine inspection cases. The average attendance was
maintained much as last year.
An increased attendance of expectant mothers is again
noted and there is a greater willingness to receive treatment.
The number of mothers fitted with artificial dentures has
also increased. This section of the dental work occupies a
considerable part of each session and time that was spent
last year on routine inspections has now been given to
these mothers (as the afternoon sessions deal mainly with
inspections). It is hoped that the mothers who have
received dental treatment themselves will be encouraged to
bring their children, especially those under two years of
age, for prophylactic and conservative treatment, as it has
been found that caries often starts even before the temporary
teeth are fully erupted. Instruction in the correct method
of brushing the teeth is given, and emphasis is laid on the
necessity of teaching children to chew their food.
