ENLARGED TONSILS, ADENOIDS AND
MASTOID DISEASE.
In accordance with the arrangements with the
Queen.s Hospital, 10 young children had operations for
onlarged tonsils as in.patients upon the recommendation
of the Medical Officers of the Welfare Centres. The
Council.s scheme is a much needed improvement on the
common practice of discharging children immediately
after the operation, which is not only distressing to
patient, parents and public, but fraught with considerable
danger to the patient especially in transit through
our busy and dusty streets. Owing to the increased
accommodation at the Queen.s Hospital there is now
much less delay in arranging vacancies.
CONVALESCENT TREATMENT.
During the year 18 mothers were sent to the
London Mothers. Convalescent Home, Sunningdale,
Berkshire, and 2 mothers to the . George Whitlaw.
Convalescent Cottage, Amerden, near Taplow. Twenty
mothers were sent away for two weeks. In 8 of the
cases the husband contributed to the cost of the
convalescence.
With regard to children, the arrangement made
with the Hertfordshire County Council in 1922 was
continued, and 74 children were sent to that Council.s
Home at St. Leonard.s.on.Sea, Sussex, 4 for one week,
3 for two weeks, 2 for three weeks, 49 for the normal
