Protection of Food Supply.
(A)—INSPECTION OF FOOD PREMISES.
The regular inspection of all premises where food for human
consumption is sold or stored is carried out. The Food and Drugs Act,
1955, and regulations made thereunder, is the principal Act under which
action is taken.

There are 901 food premises in the Borough, together with 62
food stalls. Some of the premises shown above are listed under more
than one trade category.
Milk Distributors.
At the end of the year there were 114 premises in the Borough
whose occupiers were registered as milk distributors.
All these premises were visited during the year, and a summons
was issued against one occupier for failing to keep the walls, ceiling and
floor of a food room in such a condition as to enable them to be
properly cleansed in accordance with Regulation 23 (i) of the Food
Hygiene (General) Regulations, 1960. A fine of £10 was imposed, and
£2 costs were awarded to the Council.
Milk (Special Designation) Regulations.
The number of Dealers' (Pre-packed Milk) licences issued during
1964 was nine.
Normally, licences granted since the Regulations were made in 1960
are valid until the 31st December 1965, but in September, 1963, the
Milk (Special Designation) Regulations, 1963, were issued. These
