TUBERCULOSIS
During the year 1959 there were 75 cases of tuberculosis (all
forms) notified in Battersea as compared with 75 in 1958, 100 in 1957,
108 in 1956, 129 in 1955 and 140 in 1954.
In addition 63 cases were reported or otherwise came to the knowledge
of the Medical Officer of Health, making a total of 138 cases
for the year.
The case rate per 1,000 population (excluding inward transfers)
was 0.69 or 69.0 per 100,000. At the end of the year there were 1,095
pulmonary cases and 67 non-pulmonary cases of tuberculosis on the
Register. This is equal to a morbidity rate per 1,000 population of
10.09 in the case of pulmonary, and 0.62 in the case of non-pulmonary
tuberculosis or 10.71 both types.
The tables on page 18 give details of additions and deletions of
cases on the Register during the year.
Deaths from Tuberculosis.
During 1959 deaths from tuberculosis registered as belonging to the
Borough of Battersea numbered 8, of which 7 were due to pulmonary
tuberculosis. and 1 to another form of the disease.
