Deaths of Illegitimate Infants.
The death rate amongst illegitimate children during 1959 was
43.96 per 1,000 illegitimate live births, as compared with 34.48 in
1958. The corresponding death rate of legitimate children in 1959 was
19.48. The ratio of mortality rate of illegitimate infants to that of
legitimate being 225 to 100. The corresponding figure for 1958 was
Maternal Mortality.
During 1959 there were two deaths from "diseases or accidents
of child-birth," which is equivalent to a fatality rate of 0.97 per 1,000
birth (live and still). Both deaths, however, were due to self-induced
abortion. There was one death during 1958.
The rate for England and Wales in 1959 was 0.38.
