Cancer.
During 1959 the number of deaths of Battersea residents from
cancer was 246 (139 males, 107 females), as compared with 241 m 1958
The death rate from the disease per 1,000 of the population was 2.27
The deaths from cancer constitute 18.5 per cent, of the total Battersea
deaths during the year.

Infant Mortality.
During 1959 the deaths of 44 infants under 1 year of age were
registered as belonging to Battersea. The total number of live births
registered during the year was 2,030 giving an infant mortality rate
of 21.67 per 1,000 live births as compared with 23.96 in 1958 and
22.33 in 1957
The infant mortality rate in England and Wales during 1959
was 22.0.
