TUBERCULOSIS.
During the year 1954 there were 140 cases of tuberculosis (all
forms) notified in Battersea as compared with 165 in 1953, 188 in 1952,
162 in 1951, 149 in 1950 and 194 in 1949.
In addition 81 cases were reported or otherwise came to the
knowledge of the Medical Officer of Health, making a total of 221
cases for the year.
The case rate per 100,000 population was 193.4.
The tables on page 20 give details in age groups of the 221 cases.
Deaths from Tuberculosis.
During 1954 deaths from tuberculosis registered as belonging to
the Borough of Battersea numbered 24, of which 20 (i.e., 83.3 per cent.)
were due to pulmonary tuberculosis, 4 (i.e., 16.7 per cent.) to other
forms of the disease.
The death rate per 100,000 of the population during the 50 years ended 1950 in quinquennial averages and the years 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954 are given in the following table:—
