Deaths of Illegitimate Infants
was
The death rate amongst illegitimate children during 1954
42.55 per 1,000 illegitimate live births, as compared with 70.71 in 1953,
41.23 in 1952, 42.73 in 1951, and 40.40 in 1950. The corresponding
death rate of legitimate children in 1954 was 17.64, the ratio of mortality
rate of illegitimate infants to that of legitimate being 241 to 100. The
corressponding figure for 1953 was 456 to 100.
Maternal Mortality.
During 1954 there was one death from "diseases or accidents of
child-birth," which is equivalent to a fatality rate of 0.56 per 1,000 births
(live and still). There was one such death during 1953.
The rate for England and Wales in 1954 was 0.69.
