TUBERCULOSIS.
During the year 1953 there were 165 cases of tuberculosis (all
forms) notified in Battersea as compared with 188 in 1952, 162 in
1951. 149 in 1950, 194 in 1949 and 213 in 1948.
In addition 58 cases were reported or otherwise came to the
knowledge of the Medical Officer of Health, making a total of 223
cases for the year.
The case rate per 100,000 population was 194.3.
The tables on page 18 give details in age groups of the 223 cases.
Deaths from Tuberculosis.
During 1953 deaths from tuberculosis registered as belonging to
the Borough of Battersea numbered 19, of which 14 (i.e., 73.7 per cent.)
were due to pulmonary tuberculosis, 5 (i.e., 26.3 per cent.) to other
forms of the disease.

The death rate per 100,000 of the population during the 50 years ended 1950 in quinquennial averages and the years 1951, 1952 and 1953 are given in the following table: —
