New Legislation, &c.
During 1932, the following new Acts and Orders affecting the
work of the Public Health Department came into force:—
(a) The London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1932,
which contained, inter alia, provisions relating to the
following matters—
Sec. 5. Registration of premises in which ice-cream
is manufactured, stored or sold (vide p. 91).
Sec. 5. Registration of premises used for the preparation
or manufacture of preserved foods (vide
p. 93).
Sec. 6. The making of By-laws with regard to
premises in which food is manufactured, stored,
sold or exposed for sale (vide p. 95).
Sec. 7. Notification of cases of food poisoning
(vide p. 94).
Sec. 8. Unsound food (vide p. 94).
(b) Public Health (Cleansing of Shellfish) Act, 1932.
(c) Orders made under the Agricultural (Grading and Marking)
Acts, referred to on p. 93.
(d) Order made under the Merchandise Marks Acts relating
to imported butter (vide p. 94).

Common Lodging Houses. The following table gives a list of the common lodging houses in the Borough:—

These are frequently inspected and any sanitary defects noted.
Drainage Work.
The by-laws made by the London County Council under the
Metropolis Management Acts with regard to drainage, and also
those under the Public Health (London) Act relating to waterclosets,
&c., are enforced by the Council.
During the year new drains were constructed to 178 new buildings,
or additions to existing buildings, and the drains of 135 old
buildings were partially or entirely reconstructed, under the
supervision of the Officers of the Department.
