POPULATION.
To meet the altered constitution of the population caused by the War, the Registrar-General
has estimated the population of Kensington in 1920 as 165,496 for the purpose of calculating the
birth rate, and as 164,177 for the calculation of the death rates.

In regard to the social status of the population, it may be said that the majority of the
inhabitants of North Kensington belong to the poor classes, whilst in South Kensington persons
of the poor classes constitute only a small proportion of the population.

MARRIAGES. During the year 2,111 marriages were registered, representing a rate of 25.1 per 1000 of the population. The place of marriage is set out in the following table:—

BIRTHS. The number of births registered was 4,020, after correction for inward and outward transfers, and the birth rate for the Borough was 24 3 per 1,000 population. Distributed according to sex and legitimacy the births were as follows:—
