PUBLIC CONVENIENCES
With the opening of the new Ismailia Road Convenience a picture of
which is on centre page, there are now 8 Conveniences in use under the
control of the Public Health Department, each with a Men's and Women's
Section. These have been constructed at various times between 1900
and 1960,
All the conveniences have both a free and paid wash for the
convenience of the public, the only exception being at Wyfold Road,
where there is a free wash only. These facilities are well used and
appreciated.
New Conveniences
Ismailia Road (Builders, W, J. Marston & Son Ltd.) opened to
the public on the 11th June, 1960. A census taken of the use made of
this convenience established that although the Men's Section is busy,
the Women's is not. It has been decided, therefore, to vary the
staffing of the Women's Section in order to effect economy.
Gibbs Green (Replacement of existing underground convenience
(built 1900) by a new convenience on site opposite) (Builders, Tersons
Ltd.). Work commenced on the 8th August, and the convenience is
expected to be ready for use in March, 1961.
