BIRTHS.
During the year 1,083 births were registered in Chelsea. Of these
births of non-parishioners account for 531. In addition, there were
157 births amongst Chelsea mothers in Lying-in Hospitals and elsewhere
outside the Borough. The total number of Chelsea Births for
the year was therefore 709, equivalent to an annual birth-rate of 11.9
per 1,000 of population.
The birth-rate for England and Wales in 1932 was 15.3, while that
for London as a whole was 14.2.
