siderable benefit from the treatment, although in certain cases the
treatment could with advantage have been more prolonged. The
outstanding feature of the treatment in certain cases was the falling
off in health after the child had been back at home for a few weeks.
There is no question that the very poor housing accommodation
of very many of the residents of Greenwich, referred to at greater
length elsewhere, not only produces a sickly child who is in great
need of convalescent treatment, but almost at once nullifies, owing
to unhealthy surroundings, the benefit derived from change of air
and suitable food. Several children, however, were sent away
from houses in the better parts of the Borough, including some of
the houses on the Council's Estates, and in such cases the benefits
derived have been much more permanent in character.
The following continue their good work in the Borough :—
Local Medical Practitioners' School Clinic.
Health Centre, Deptford Green.
Rachel McMillan Memorial Nursery School.
Albany Institute Infant Consultation and Babies' Home.
Deptford Fund—Babies' Hospital.—The arrangement made
with the Deptford Fund still operates whereby they receive in
their Hospital such Greenwich cases as are recommended by the
Medical Officer for treatment (debility and dietetic disorders).
During the year 57 babies were admitted of which 31 were discharged
cured, 10 relieved, 8 in statu quo, whilst 8 unfortunately died.
