HOUSING
New Houses.
The Council continued to direct considerable energy
to the furtherance of their programme for the provision
of new houses. During the year under review, 583 new
dwellings were completed and at the end of the year 526
were in the course of erection. In addition, 99 existing
properties were acquired for conversion into flats and 183
units of accommodation were thus provides.
Slum Clearance.

Slum Clearance. Three clearance areas were declared by the Council during the year as follows:-

The first two areas completed this Authority's
responsibilities in the five year programme (1956-60)
agreed with the London County Council. The Blenheim
Grove area was additional and was represented with the
concurrence of the County Council who by agreement undertake
the rehousing of the displaced persons from clearance
areas of less than 10 houses.
The preparation of the programme for the five years
1961/65 was almost completed by the end of the year.
