Piggery.
A Piggery situated in Oakhurst Grove formed the subject of
complaints from local residents of offensive smells and the
presence of flies. The district sanitary inspector kept a close
observation on this piggery and as a result of his action,
improvements were carried out by the proprietors to secure the
abatement of any nuisances existing. Under existing legislation
it would have been difficult to prevent pig keeping on this site
but fortunately, the piggery was voluntarily closed soon after
Christmas 1950.
Swimming Bath Waters.
During 1950, 28 samples of water were taken from the
Dulwich and Camberwell Public Baths for bacteriological
examination and 33 for chemical analysis. A request from the
governors of the Mary Datchelor Girls' School was submitted
to the Public Health Committee who authorised this Council's
Officers to take samples from the school swimming bath during
the summer term. Three samples were taken for both
bacteriological examination and chemical analysis.
Apart from minor adjustments to ensure a satisfactory pH
value and free chlorine content, all the waters examined were
found to be satisfactory.

During the year 5 samples of different types of rag flock were
taken and submitted to the Public Analyst for examination.
All the samples were reported to be satisfactory.
