Borough of Bermondsey.
ANNUAL REPORT
OF THE
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Borough of Bermondsey.
Sir, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my Annual Report for the year
1940. In accordance with the instructions of the Minister the
Report has been made as brief as possible and therefore consists
almost solely of statistics. During the year the two Committees
which are mainly concerned with the work of this Department,
namely, the Public Health Committee and the Maternity and
Child Welfare Committee, have continued to meet though with
less frequency than usual. lam grateful for the support and
encouragement which I have received from the members and
wish particularly to express this gratitude to the two Chairmen.
It is always the privilege of a chief official to come into close
contact with the Mayor, and in war-time this relationship is closer
than at other times. I may therefore be permitted to say how
greatly we have missed the friendly, cheerful and encouraging
presence of the late Mayor, Councillor A. G. Henley, J.P,, who
was killed by enemy action on the 11th May, 1941.
I am, Sir, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
D. M. CONNAN.
