9. Cut hair, falling on the floor must not be allowed to
accumulate, floors to be thoroughly cleansed twice weekly with
soap and water containing one teaspoonful of the disinfectant to
one quart of water.
10. Alum blocks may be used as a styptic, but only after
submerging same in hot water for one minute. A liquid or
powder may be applied on towel or cotton wool, or by spraying.
11. The most scrupulous cleanliness to be observed in all
that pertains to the business.
12. The operator to wear a clean overall and to wash his
hands before attending to each customer.
13. No customer suffering from a skin or hair affection to be
attended to, save at his own home, or office, or in a private room.
14. Clean hot water to be used in shaving each customer.
15. The following sanitary requirements must be observed:—
The ventilation and cleanliness of the saloon must be adequate.
Drains must be inspected and found to be in good condition,
trapped and ventilated. All lavatory basin wastes must be
trapped. An ample supply of water must be laid on.
The Borough Council decided that subject to the premises being
found satisfactory on inspection, and on the receipt by the Council of
an undertaking in writing signed by the proprietor of the premises to
comply with the regulations, a certificate in the form set out above be
issued by the Council recognising the premises as suitable for the
business of a hairdresser, subject to compliance with the Regulations,
such certificate to be effective for a period of twelve months from the
date of issue. It is regrettable that only two barbers in the Borough,
so far, have made application and received the certificate.
Typhoid (Enteric) Fever. Within the last twenty-five years a
great fall in the incidence of this disease has taken place throughout
the country.
