Revision of the Register. An enquiry card showing all the essential
particulars of the case is made out for every notified case on the primary
visit, and the notes on subsequent visits are made on this card. These
cards have thus constituted an effective register of all the known cases
of tuberculosis within the Borough. In order that the time of the
Visitors might be utilised to the best advantage, it was decided in 1923
to revise this register with a view to eliminating many of the cases
which were being periodically visited. In many of the cases the patient
had enjoyed good health and a full working capacity, with freedom
from symptoms for five years and upwards. The cards of these patients
were removed from the active register. In other cases the subsequent
notes or subsequent examinations at the Clinic had left the original
diagnosis doubtful, and efforts were made, in most cases successfully,
to get these patients to the Clinic, so that they could be re-assured and
the necessity for further visiting removed.
For visiting purposes the cards are grouped in wards (South and
South-East being grouped together).
The following table gives the number of cases thus removed from the active register :—
Pulmonary Tuberculosis. | Other Tuberculosis. | |
---|---|---|
East Ward | 58 | 71 |
North Ward | 32 | 53 |
South and South-East Ward | 14 | 28 |
North-West Ward | 27 | 48 |
South-West Ward | 7 | 12 |
Total | 138 | 212 |
After the removal of the cases, the totals for the respective wards were:—

South and South-East Ward | 143 | 48 |
