143 Infants died before attaining the age of one year, i.e., 59 per
1,000 of the births registered. Of this number 8 were illegitimate,
representing an illegitimate infant mortality rate of 140 per 1,000.
The mortality amongst infants in the various wards is shown in the following table:—
