The Provision of Trained Nurses to Cases of Advanced
Consumption in their Homes.
The visit of a trained nurse once or twice a day to a home where
an advanced consumptive is confined to bed is of great importance
to the patient and to those who are looking after him.
Such visits, however, should never be considered as an alternative
to removal to hospital, unless the patient is able to have a
room to himself without inconvenience to the rest of the household,
and unless proper nourishment can be provided.
The provision of constant attendance by trained nurses is
subject to similar restrictions. Apart from that it would be a
costly Public scheme.
A considerable amount of daily visiting of advanced consumptives
is done in Camberwell by the district nurses. We are greatly
indebted to them for charting temperatures in cases under observation
for diagnosis.
The Camberwell Day Sanatorium, 6, Grove Hill Road.
The Day Sanatorium was started in 1917 by the Tuberculosis
Dispensary. There is a lawn garden of over an acre in extent on
the top of Dog Kennel Hill well exposed to the sun. There is one
class limited to 30 children taught by a London County Council
school teacher. Since November, 1921, the school has been under
the control of the London County Council. It is intended to be
an after-care effort on behalf of children who have completed
residential treatment. All cases are non-infectious. The following
