SMOKE NUISANCES.
The Inspector entrusted with the duty of keeping
observation for the emission of black smoke, made 65 investigations
during the year. The details of his observations are
as follows:—laundries 16, preserve works 46, flour mills 4,
saw mills 9, bakehouses 3, miscellaneous premises 4.
The duration of the observations varied from 1 hour
to 4 hours each. In consequence of offences observed
5 intimation and 1 Statutory notices were served.
DISINFECTION.
During the year disinfection was carried out at 1,758
houses or premises in the Borough, a total of 4,245 rooms being
sprayed. The number of articles removed to the Council's
Station for disinfection, either by steam or the formalin process,
was 52,264.
