Small-pox.
No case of small-pox occurred in Hampstead during the year.
Vaccination.
Of the total births dealt with by the Vaccination Officer, amounting
to 1,066, in 1919, 457 were successfully vaccinated. In 8 cases the
children were insusceptible of vaccination. In regard to 235 Certificates
of Conscientious Objection were obtained; 48 died before
vaccination was performed; 24 cases of vaccination were postponed
and 294 remained to be dealt with.
I am indebted to the Vaccination Officer for these statistics.
Provision for Isolation of "Contacts."
I had endeavoured, unsuccessfully, for some time to obtain a house
or premises to be used for the isolation of small-pox or other infectious
disease contacts (in the event of an outbreak of such a disease), and it
being considered essential that such accommodation should be readily
available, the Council gave authority for the disused shed adjoining the
Disinfecting Station in the electricity yard to be fitted as a cleansing
station, the necessary alterations thereto to be made to make it suitable
for this purpose. By this rearrangement the existing cleansing station
which occupies the cottage shelter in the corner of the electricity yard
(adjoining Lithos Passage) and the remainder of that building will be
able to be utilized, should occasion arise, as a shelter for small-pox and
other infectious disease contacts and also for the temporary housing of
poor persons during the disinfection of their goods or rooms.
Tuberculosis.
During the year 1919, 213 new cases of Tuberculosis were notified,
165 being cases of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, and 48 other forms of the
disease.

In the following table these 213 cases have been analysed as to sex and age, and it will be noticed that 48 per cent, were aged between 25 and 45.
