Including only the Finsbury cases by infection and by residence
and infection, these amount to 122 deaths which may reasonably
be associated with the Borough and give a corresponding death
rate from phthisis of 1.44 per thousand inhabitants. Allotted to
districts, 90 belonged to Clerkenwell, 59 to St. Luke, and 2 to
St. Sepulchre.
Of the whole number of deaths, 1,636, in Finsbury in 1914, 9.2
per cent, were due to phthisis, as against 9.3 and 9.7 per cent, in
1912, and 1913 respectively. Nearly four-fifths of the total deaths
due to phthisis took place between 25 and 65 years. Eighty-four
died in poor law institutions.
The deaths from phthisis in institutions for previous years are appended :— Phthisis Deaths in Institutions, 1901—1914.
