The help given by the Borough Council has been in the majority
of cases to pay half the cost of milk where it has been assisted, but in
May, when the price of milk fell to 8d. per quart, the Council reconsidered
the amount of help to be afforded; and resolved that while the
scale of weekly income below which help is given (which was adopted
by the Council on 20th November, 1919) should be maintained; the
Council should in future pay only any excess in the price of milk over
and above 6d. per quart, with the exception of those cases in which the
milk is supplied free.
This scale of payment held good until the end of September when
the price of milk again rose to l0d. per quart, and the scale of help
given by the Council for assisted milk was again raised to half the cost.
