INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality, measured by the deaths of
children under one year of age to the number of births
registered, was 108 per 1,000 births, there having been
a total of 261 such deaths during the year, as compared
with 251, 310, and 259, the figures for the three preceding
years. The number for the County of London
was 103 per 1,000 births.
The lowest rates of Infantile Mortality amongst the
Metropolitan Boroughs were 60 per 1,000 births in
Hampstead, 64 in Stoke Newington, 66 in the City of
London, 80 in Lewisham, and 84 in the City of Westminster;
whilst the highest were 122 in Deptford, 123
in Finsbury and Bethnal Green, 126 in Bermondsey, and
146 in Shoreditch.

Locally, the variations were from 63 per 1,000 births in Kidbrooke, 80 in Charlton, 108 in East Greenwich, 121 in West Greenwich, and 123 in St. Nicholas; the following table compares, at a glance, these figures for the years since the formation of the Borough:—
