Locally, the death rate varied from 4-70 in Kidbrooke,.
9-09 in Charlton, 11-19 in East Greenwich, and 13-71
in West Greenwich, to 14-46 in St. Nicholas.

The. following table shows the variation in, and average of, the death rates in each of the five Districts of the Borough in the five years 190.5 to 1909, compared with the figures for 1910: —

It will be seen on considering the above table that the
death rate throughout the whole of the Borough has
since the year 1906 gradually been a declining one, whilst
the death rate of 1906 was only slightly in excess of
that of 1905, which again was much below the previous
years—standing in the first year of this Council's existence
at 15-31 per 1,000. This certainly shows a very satisfactory
decrease during the 10 years of the Council's
existence. Speaking generally it will be seen that this decline
is fairly proportionate throughout the whole of the Borough
with the exception of St. Nicholas, Deptford, which, however,
shews a marked improvement in this respect. In
1901 the death rate stood at 2 3 per 1,000, whereas for
the last year, as will be seen above, it is at the comparatively
satisfactory figure of 14-46 per 1,000.
It may be, however, that these figures will not appear
in such a satisfactory light when the results of the recent
census are known.
