These vans undergo frequent inspection by the Councils'
Sanitary Inspectors, both by night as well as day. During the
year twenty-one vans were found to be overcrowded and notices
under the by-laws were served where necessary to abate.
Four cases of infectious disease were notified from amongst
van dwellers during 1911. The patients were immediately removed
to the Isolation Hospital and the usual further precautions taken
to prevent the spread of infection.
