The number of samples taken for analysis under the Sale of Food
and Drugs Acts during the year was 512, and the number certified by
the Public Analyst to be adulterated was 15, or 2.9 per cent. of the total
number. The corresponding percentage in 1910 was 2.3; in 1909 it
was 3.9. In addition, 16 samples were certified to bo of low quality.
418 samples were purchased from Hampstead tradesmen, and 94
from persons residing without, but trading within, the Borough. The
percentages of adulterated samples in these two classes were 1.4 and 9.5
respectively.
Thirteen samples were taken on Hampstead Heath on Rank
Holidays, and of these 6 or 46.1 per cent. were adulterated, and one was
of poor quality.
Forty-six samples were taken on Sundays; one of this number was
found to be adulterated.
All the samples were taken with the formalities prescribed by the
Acts, except two, which were taken informally. These two informal
samples were found to be genuine.

The following table shows the articles of which samples were taken during the year, and the number found to be adulterated or of low quality:—
