In 12 eases the illegal occupation of the rooms was discontinued, in
80 cases the structural work necessary to make them comply with the
law were either completed or were well in hand before the end of the
year, and in one case, a servant's bedroom in the basement of a house in
Fitzjohns Avenue, the works were not completed by the end of the year,
and the Council made a closing order in 1912.
Public Mortuary.
During the year the bodies of 84 persons were brought to the
Mortuary, as against 87 last year—45 by order of the Coroner, 14 bv
the Police, and 25 at the request of friends of the deceased persons.
In 60 instances, or 71 per cent, of ths bodies admitted, inquests
were held, and in 41 instances, or 49 per cent., post-mortem examinations
were made.
