The Finsbury death rate is seen to be the third in order, and is
exceeded by the rates in Southwark and Holborn. Only 35 per
cent. of the Finsbury phthisis patients who died in 1913 were born
in the Borough: 48 per cent. were born in other metropolitan
districts and had migrated into Finsbury. Twenty-five per cent.
of the deceased patients lived and slept in one room with the
other members of their families, 37 per cent. occupied two rooms
in similar manner.
During the illnesses which preceded their deaths, 21 per cent.
had lived in other metropolitan boroughs, and had come into
Finsbury so as to be near the hospitals.
