FACTORIES AND WORKSHOPS.
The number of workshops and workplaces on the Register at the
end of 1918 was 1,984, compared with 1,950 at the end of 1912.
During the year under review 119 entries were removed from the
register owing to the closing of premises, the conversion of workshops
into factories by the introduction of some form of mechanical
power or to the removal of the occupiers to other places of
business. The number of workshops and workplaces newly
registered was 158.
The factories on the register at the end of 1913 numbered 1,064,
compared with 1,016 at the end of 1912. During the year 85
factories were removed from the register, and 183 were added.
