I—23
FACTORY AND WORKSHOPS ACT.
In accordance with the provisions of the above Act, I submit a
report of the work carried out under its statutory enactments.
There were 3,435 inspections of factories, workshops, and workplaces, and
there were 157 notices served. These, as they did last
year, related chiefly to the lack of cleanliness or to unsuitable or
defective sanitary accommodation.
In the majority these were remedied when the occupiers'
attention was called to them, and in no case was it necessary to
prosecute; but there are certain cases of insufficient accommodation
where the one demand for entire provision is still outstanding.
