COMMON LODGING HOUSES ACTS. 1851 and 1853
The Secretary of State, by a Provisional Order which came into operation
on the 1st November, 1894, transferred to the London County Council the
powers of the Commissioner of Metropolitan Police in respect of common
lodging houses.
The following is a list of the Common Lodging Houses registered in this
Borough at the end of the year 1911:—
Of these 14 are in St. Giles and Bloomsbury for 1,060 lodgers.

During the year there were 148 inspections of factories, 746 inspections of
workshops and 2,486 of workplaces. 264 Intimation Notices for sanitary defects
were served and 41 Statutory Notices.
