Report on the health of the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea for the year 1909

During the year 1909, in the Borough of Battersea, 630 deaths of persons aged 65 years and upwards were registered. The age distribution of these deaths in the sub-districts is set out in the following table: —

The 630 deaths over 65 were equivalent to 26.1 per cent, of
the deaths at all ages.

It will be noted that there was a marked increase in the
senile mortality for Battersea during the year 1909. This, as has
already been pointed out, was probably due to the severe weather
during part of the first quarter of the year, causing a high mortality,
especially amongst the very old and very young.
