Marriages.
The marriages registered in Battersea during 1909 number
1,307 or 105 less than the decennial average. The marriage-rate
i.e., the number of persons married per 1,000 of the population
was 14.0, or 2.1 below the decennial average.
Deaths.
The total number of deaths registered in the Borough of
Battersea during the year 1909 was 2,445, as compared with 2,265
during 1908, and a yearly average of 3,049 in the old Parish of
Battersea for the deeennium 1891-1900. Of the total deaths,
1,235 were males and 1,210 females, showing an excess of 25
males.
The death-rate for Battersea is, therefore, 13.14 per 1,000
inhabitants, as compared with 14.75 for London. This rate is,
however, uncorrected, and on analysing the 2,445 deaths registered
in the Borough of Battersea it is found that 502 represent
deaths occurring within the Borough amongst persons not
belonging thereto. These deaths are to be deducted; but on the
other hand there are 474 deaths registered outside the Borough,
of Battersea residents, and these must be added, giving a corrected
number of deaths for Battersea during 1909 of 2,417 (1,213
males and 1,204 females), an excess of nine males, and a corrected
