Workshops.— The number of workshops registered in Hackney
at the end of 1910 was 1,039, a decrease of 12 upon the number
registered at the end of 1909. Of the above, 702 were workshops
in which articles of wearing apparel are manufactured, altered or
prepared for sale, &c., and 337 in which other articles are manufactured,
&c. Below is given a list of these two classes of workshops
and the occupations carried on therein.
Amongst the workshops manufacturing wearing apparel there
are 475 where female labour alone is employed, and 140 where
both male and female labour is employed, and 87 where male
labour alone is employed. There are 42 domestic workshops in
the Borough, in 28 of which females alone work, and 14 in which
both males and females work.
In workshops and places of other occupations females alone
are employed in 110, both sexes in 62, and males alone in 165.
Thus in the total number of workshops and workplaces registered
in the Borough females alone are employed in 585, both sexes
in 202, and males alone in 252.
