The cards of advice to mothers are usually received
with an appreciative remark, but they are not kept.
The new cards (differing in size and shape from those
we had at first) are much better liked than the original
ones were, so they may meet with better treatment.
They are also certainly much more convenient for
carrying on one's round.
Diarrhæa Deaths.
With regard to the deaths of children under one year
from this complaint, 27 visits were paid by me. The
feeding was as follows:—
Breast-fed 8
Partly breast-fed 5
Hand-fed—
Cow's milk 7
Condensed milk 2
Condensed milk with patent food 1
Four diarrhoea deaths were those of children who had
been for some time in hospitals or Infirmary, and
concerning whose food, therefore, no information was
obtained.
During September and October 8 babies were brought
to me suffering from this illness. As my time was
being devoted to infants, I felt justified in giving a good
deal of it to these sick babies So I saw that they had
medical advice (Dr. Taunton was good enough to see
two of them for me, and you will remember that you
saw and prescribed for one yourself; the others were
taken to a doctor or hospital by the mother), and then
