One sample of butter was served in a paper
stamped "Margarine."
In the cases of one sample of butter, one of bacon,
and two of milk, all slightly adulterated, the offence
was too slight to warrant a prosecution, the vendors
being cautioned.
One sample purporting to consist of cream of
tartar was found to be entirely saltpetre. An obvious
mistake had been made and a caution was administered.
Owing to "legal" notice exhibited at the time of
purchase, no proceedings were possible in the
following cases:—one lard consisting entirely of
cocoanut fat, two milks 90 per cent. and 11 per cent.
deficient in fat respectively, and two coffees containing
45 per cent. and 47 per cent. of chicory
respectively.
