To arrive at the number of the inhabitants of a
Borough situated as is Bethnal Green, requires the
consideration of such a variety of factors that exact
accuracy in estimating is impossible. A fresh census
is to be taken on Sunday, the 2nd of April, 1911, and
when the results of this enumeration are published we
shall have, for one year at least, a solid basis upon
which to calculate our statistics.
In the interests of truth it is much to be regretted that census enumerations are so infrequent. TABLE A.

The total number of births registered during the
year was 3,999; but in addition to these I have received
information of 133 infants born of Bethnal Green
mothers who were temporarily inmates of lying-in
institutions in other Metropolitan Boroughs. The
single institution of this nature in Bethnal Green is
