TYPHUS FEVER.
Nil return.
The annual average for the preceding 10 years had been 1. In the
County of London only 8 cases were known, one of which occurred in
Hackney.
ERYSIPELAS.
Erysipelas was responsible for 252 cases or 61 less than the average of 313
which obtained during the preceding decennium. The return is with one
exception the lowest recorded since the notification of the disease was made
compulsory.
These cases represent an attack-rate of 0.74 per 1,000 of the population as
against a mean rate of 0.91 in the 10 years 1895-1904; in the County of
London of 106, and in the Encircling Boroughs 0.99.
Hospital Isolation—Very few cases are usually removed to hospital; and
last year was no exception to the rule, for only 38 were treated in the medical
institutions, while 214 were nursed at home. Of the hospital cases 6, or 15.8
per cent. died, while amongst those treated at home there were 6 deaths, or 2.8
per cent.
