Four specimens of blood from patients suspected to be suffering
from enteric fever were submitted by the doctors in attendance for
bacteriological examination, two specimens proving positive and two
negative.

A careful inquiry was made as to the source of infection in each
case. In five instances it was found that the patient had clearly been
infected outside Hampstead; one of these patients was infected ill
India, one in Canada, one in Germany, and two elsewhere. In two
