The "Infantile Mortality"—i.e., the number of deaths under one
year per 1000 births—was 60, as compared with the rate of 74 per 1000
births in 1909, this figure being calculated on the total number of births
belonging to Hampstead, including those that occurred in lying-in
institutions outside Hampstead. The average rate for the years 19001909
was 87.
