The "Infantile Mortality," i.e., the number of deaths under one
year per 1000 births was 74 as compared with the rate of 69 per 1000
births in 1908, this figure being calculated on the total number of births
belonging to Hampstead, including those that occurred in lying-in
institutions outside Hampstead. The average rate for the years 18991908
was 93.
