Zymotic Death-rate.—The death-rate in Chelsea from the seven
principal zymotic diseases was 1.2 per 1,000 in 1909, the corresponding
rate for London being 1.52. In 1908 the zymotic death-rate in Chelsea
was 1.4 per 1,000.

Small-Pox.— There was no small-pox in Chelsea in 1909.
Measles.— This disease caused 24 deaths in 1909, as compared with
12 in 1908, and 41 in 1907. Nineteen deaths were registered in North
Chelsea, and 5 in South Chelsea. Three of the deaths were of infants
under one year of age, 18 of children between one and five years, and two
of children over five years. Sixteen of the deaths occurred in the first
quarter of the year, three in the second, two in the third, and three in
the last quarter.
Scarlet Fever.— This disease caused 7 deaths in 1909, the same
number as in 1908. Three were North Chelsea cases, and four South
Chelsea. All were fever hospital patients.
Diphtheria.— This disease caused 14 deaths in 1909, as compared
with 13 in 1908. Nine of the fatal cases were residents in North Chelsea,
and five in South Chelsea. All but one of the deaths occurred in hospital.

Whooping Cough.— This disease caused 13 deaths in 1909, as
compared with 18 in 1908. Five of the fatal cases were residents of
North Chelsea, and eight of South Chelsea.
Enteric Fever.— Two deaths were due to enteric fever in 1909, as
compared with five in 1908. One death occurred in each sub-district.
