Section I.—STATISTICAL.
POPULATION OF CHELSEA.
The census population of the Borough of Chelsea for the year 1901
was 73,842.
The estimated population of the Borough for 1909 is 75,249; the
population of each sub-district being as follows:—
North Chelsea 43,324
South Chelsea 31,925
There is considerable reason, however, for believing that the
population of the Borough is now over-estimated on account of the closing
of houses and demolitions in Church and Cheyne Wards and the increasing
proportion of empty houses in the Borough as a whole. As the accuracy
of the birth and death-rates depends on the correctness of the estimation
of population, the current rates must be regarded as liable to correction
when the census figures for 1911 are known.

The above Table relates to births registered in the District.
Excluding 6 births of non-parishioners, and including 90 births taking
place amongst Chelsea mothers in Lying-in Hospitals and Homes outside
the Borough, the total number of births for the year is 1,400.
