dwellings afford proper and suitable sanitary conditions for the
inhabitants of these dwellings. On receipt of an application a
detailed inspection is made, and if found not to be satisfactory, a
list of requirements is drawn up and sent to the owner. Should
these requirements be carried out, the necessary certificate is
granted.
The number of tenements inspected by the Medical Officer
during 1908 was 129. In all cases, on various grounds, the
certificate was postponed or refused.

The following is a list of certificates for exemption from inhabited house duty granted by the Medical Officer of Health in each year since 1890:—

Water Supply.
No samples were examined during 1908. Complaints were
received on two occasions during the year as to the condition of
the water and enquired into. At the request of the Medical Officer
of Health samples were taken by the Metropolitan Water Board.
The cause for the complaint was ascertained to have been due
to the laying down of a new main, and the consequent resulting
turbidity of the water, but which was only of a temporary
character.
