of the Health Visitor and the distribution of cards containing
information as to the feeding and rearing of infants ; establishment
of a Milk Depot for the supply at a low price of sterile milk.
That these measures have, during 1908, been followed by success
will, I think, be evident from the infant mortality statistics so
graphically shown in the chart on page 23.
Tuberculosis.
During 1908, 306 deaths from Tuberculosis were registered
in the Borough of Battersea. Of this number 220 (i.e., 71 per
cent.) were due to Phthisis (tuberculosis of the lungs), 34 to Tubercular
Meningitis, 37 to General Tuberculosis, 1 to Tubercular
disease of the Larynx, and 9 to other forms of the disease. In
1907 the total number of deaths from Tuberculosis was 304 ; in
1906, 308 ; and 1905, 323.
