Miss GRAY'S REPORT.

Medical Officer of Health.
Sir,
I have the honour of presenting for your consideration a report of my work for the
year 1904.
During the year I inspected 1,751 premises, in which there were 2,365 workrooms, and I have
made 1,465 calls and re-inspections.
The premises which I inspected were :—
Registered Workshops and Laundries .. .. 1,089
The Homes of Female Homeworkers .. .. .. 434
The Kitchens of Restaurants, &c. .. .. .. .. 131
Miscellaneous Premises .. .. .. .. 97
Registered Workshops.—At the end of the year there were on the " Register of workshops, workplaces
and laundries where females are employed " 1,040 premises, containing 1,781 workrooms.
This is a reduction of 43 workshops during the year, as 159 have been added to the register while
202 have been removed from it.
The addresses of 130 workshops, which had not been visited by the Home Office Inspectors, or
in which the abstract of the Factory and Workshop Act was not affixed, have been forwarded to
H.M. Inspector for the district.
